Stop, Rewind, and Press Play

Monday, July 6th, 2009

Well, if you haven’t noticed, the posting has been very sparse for the past year. I’ve now decided this blog is going away. I may archive it somewhere on the site. I think I will be starting a new blog on this site, but I’m not entirely sure yet. It may be a while before that comes to be.

This iteration of Monakhos was basically the story of moving from Christianity and trying to figure out how to synthesize the philosophy and religion of East and West. That phase is now over. I don’t really know that I acheived a synthesis, but I did achieve the right (for me at least) answer.

I don’t want to just continue to post on top of the current blog for a few reasons. First of all, the blog needs updating. It’s running an old version of Wordpress, and I’d rather just start fresh than upgrade (I’ve made some modifications to the code I don’t remember and upgrading would be painful.) I also may change the format slightly, but I’m not sure exactly how yet. Ultimately, I just feel like I need to start on a fresh slate.

Thought I’d give all of you a heads up. I’ll let you know when the “upgrade” happens.

I Missed Esperanto Day

Monday, December 18th, 2006

I was holding off until I knew enough Esperanto to actual write a full post in the language, but it seems that didn’t work out. It’s an easy language to learn, but still can take a while to get the vocabulary all together. See Zuck’s blog for a real Esperanto day post.
Anyways, Esperanto Day is celebrated on December 15th, the birthday of the language’s creator Zamenhof. It was created to be used as a universal secondary language. While it still isn’t there yet more than a century after being created, there is still some home for it, especially considering the events of the past century such as the creation of the United Nations and the European Union.

I guess we will see where it goes from here. It is a fun and easy to learn language. If you like languages, I’d recommend at least looking at it.

So happy belated Esperanto Day, Esperanto. And happy birthday Mr. Zamenhof, even though you’re dead.

What a Day!

Not only have the Democrats take control of the House and quite possibly the Senate, but Rumsfield has also resigned? What a big day.

What Would It Look Like?

Wednesday, October 25th, 2006

Sometimes figures get lost when high in magnitude. For example, a couple billion people of the worlds whole population live in Asia. It really doesn’t hit home until brought down to a level that is a little easier to understand. So, what would the population of the world look like if there were only one hundred people? Miniature Earth answers this question. It especially brings to focus the major problems facing a large portion of the world’s population.

Upgrade

Tuesday, August 15th, 2006

I just upgraded to the newest version of Wordpress. While I was doing that I decided to add a caching plugin that should allow pages to load faster and not put as much load on the system. It doesn’t look like there are any bugs, but if you happen to find one, let me know!

Thanks!
