I realized I have a ton of music that I never really listen to. So I am listening to all of it. Some I just haven’t listened to in years, other songs I probably have never heard. There are a lot of CDs I own that I bought at the thrift store or wherever because I liked the artist or a song or two, but never actually listened to the whole thing.
So far, it’s been an interesting experience. I started with Jonathan Coulton - Re: Your Brains. Then it went to A Perfect Circle - Judith followed by a live version of Funky Bitch by Phish. Now there’s a slow Michael Brecker jazz piece playing.
I figure at the rate of listening four hours five days a week, I can knock out my collection in around 100 days. Then I have to find the CDs I have that aren’t in iTunes yet, and listen to those too!
Update: 4000 (out of 4017) songs on iTunes in queue!
Every year, the Greek Orthodox Church in Norfolk holds a Greek Festival. There is great food, music, and various Greek (and some Russian Orthodox) goods for sale. This year, I decided to buy an icon (actually three, but it only one Greek icon.) I bought one of St Athanasios. Since then, I have been looking at different information about his life and his work and found this great quote on Jesus.
“God became human that we might be made god.”
St Athanasios
He is not a lot of people’s favorite saint, but I thought that was a great quote.
God died,
I hear they found him
On the floor in his house
But we didn’t get the paper
So nobody knows
I found a great podcast called Zencast. They post once a week and have a lot of nice soothing talks. Right now, they are reading the Dhammapada about four chapters at a time. It is such a soothing experience to hear the words as I work. If you have iTunes, just go to Music Store -> Podcasts -> Search. Go to the “Religion & Spirituality” section and search for “Zencast” or just scroll down to the Zs. If you don’t have iTunes, you can download the mp3 file directly from Zencast’s site.
I have only listened to a few minutes of one podcast, but it has already been a blessing to me.
